When you’re planning your home decor scheme, the first thing you should think about is color. From your drapes and kitchen curtains to your couch and living room walls, you need to choose colors for everything in your home that make you feel safe, happy and calm. What you may not realize is that each color is known for invoking different feelings in people, and you should learn what these emotions are before you paint your whole house in the wrong colors.
“Red, blue, yellow and green are the four psychological primary colors: red affects us physically, blue is the color of the mind, yellow activates the emotions, the ego and self-confidence, and green provides the essential balance between body, mind and emotions,” color expert Angela Wright told The Huffington Post.
Here are some other feelings that colors have been known to bring out in people.
Red – According to an article published by TeleManagement, red can help people feel empowered, passionate, competitive and driven. While this may make it a great color for a workout room, you might not want to paint your bedroom red if it makes you feel competitive and over-energized.
Pink – Instead of having red in the bedroom, you may want to try pink. This color is known to be soothing, calming and healing, making it a good choice for a room where you want to relax and unwind.
Blue – If you’re not the kind of person who enjoys having a lot of pink around, go for blue in your living room, bedroom or any other place where you want to feel calm. Blue represents peacefulness, serenity, tranquility and coolness, so it can go a long way toward helping you feel at ease.
Green – According to Wright, green is “nature’s favorite color,” and it can help restore balance and equilibrium to a home. If you’ve been feeling as though your home is looking a little disjointed and nothing seems to fit together smoothly, you may want to consider purchasing some green accessories to help tie it all together.
Black – While black’s not a traditional choice for painting a room, you may want to consider it for a work space or workout room. That’s because this color can help make people feel strong and independent, so it may be a good idea for some spaces.
